1 - 5 of January - Dance of the Negritos, Huánuco

It is, perhaps, the dance of greater artistic quality and its fame extends the limits of the department. It is executed of the 25 of December to the 18 of January in the province of Huánuco and remembers the work of the black slaves in the properties huanuqueñas of cane and their dreams of freedom; in addition it reflects the splendor in the colorful luxury and of the atuendos.

The dance is made in groups who cross the city to are of the big drum, visiting the main births of the churches and houses. One begins remembering the work in the field; two farm managers - luxuriously adorned with suits embroidered with threads of gold and silver, accounts of crystal and spangles they indicate the step to follow, equal since they did in the agricultural days. Other personages are the “Turk”, the “Lady”, the “Corrochano” (old hidalgo Spanish of larguísima beard, whip and matraca whereupon scare the children) and the “Authority”.

One of the most elegant dances of Peru is the sailor. One is a gallantry that is danced in pair, beating to the air a handkerchief with the right hand, movement that serves to keep the step of the complex choreography.

The ““cepillado” coqueteo” (game of requiebres between both dancers) and the capable one with the feet are steps characteristic of the sailor. Liberteña pricked sailor dances with hat alón and poncho for the man and dress of mochera for the lady.

From the 20 to the 30 of January, in the coliseo Great Chimú of the city of Trujillo the most important contest of this dance, organized by the Club is carried out Freedom, to which they go even of all the country. During the days of the festival they are made, in addition, parades of allegorical cars and a celebration atmosphere obstructs to the city. The trujillanos “take” the Seat from Arms, where they dance and enjoy it.

Its capital, the city of Lima, was founded the 18 of January of 1535 by Francisco Pizarro.
