An all-year Sun's Refuge
This wild sanctuary a few minutes from Pisco is located
in northern Ica, and has an extension of 335 thousand hectares
of desert and beautiful beaches, housing endangered species such
as sea wolves, the funny Humbolt penguins, the guano islands birds
and the flamingo or parihuana. This bird is the symbol of the
peninsula because the colours of its feathers inspired the national

DEPARTURE: ON SATURDAYS
FIRST DAY: ICA, SUN AND WINE
-
6 a.m. Meeting point in our offices in Miraflores. While we
are waiting for the group, you can enjoy a delicious snack-breakfast.

Departure
to the city of Ica, to 305 km to the south of Lima. FREE MORNING
to enjoy the Iqueño Sun in the swimming-pool, and for
those who are interested in flying over the Nasca Lines, we
transfer you from Ica to the airport (Optional).

CITY
TOUR: We visit Bodega EL CATADOR, a shop selling homemade wines
and pisco, and traditional handicrafts associated with wine-making.
We get informed how the different colonial techniques to elaborate
the famous wine and Peruvian Pisco are still being used.

A
visit to the MAIN SQUARE and to the Sanctuary of the LORD OF
LUREN, whose temple has one of the most adored images in the
country, draws pilgrims from all Peru to the twice-yearly festivals
in March and October (15-21), when there are all-night processions.
Then we go shopping to HELENA'S HOUSE where you can buy her
well-know chocolates and delicious sweets as "tejas" (stuffed
candy).

A
visit to CACHICHE, a witches' town. We enjoy the Iqueño
sunset between Dunes and sandbank and then a visit to Huacachina
Lagoon which lies inside one Oasis in the middle of the desert.
SECOND
DAY: EXOTIC BALLESTAS ISLANDS

Continental
breakfast. Departure to the Bay of Paracas, where we have our
exciting speedboat tour to the exotic BALLESTAS ISLANDS. The
islands are nonetheles spectacular in their own right and well
worth visiting. They are eroded into numerous arches and caves,
hence their name: Ballestas means bow, as in archery. These
arches provide shelter for thousands of seabirds, some of which
are very rare, and countless sea lions. You can see the playful
sea wolves, the beautiful Zarcillos with red peak and claws,
the funny Humboldt penguin a specie in danger of extinction,
as well as a wide concentration of Fauna and Flora.
A former guano factory can be seen on one of the islands and
several other installations.
We appreciate the enigmatic and mysterious "CANDELABRO" (or
Candelabra) traced in the hillside. At least 50 m long. Some
theories believe it to be linked to the Nasca lines.
Then we go to the beach "LA MINA" where you can enjoy a bright
sun and its warm water. Then we transfer to a seafood restaurant
of the zone to taste a delicious seafood lunch. Return to the
city of Lima.
